IOWA PUBLIC AIRPORTS ASSOCIATION
2009 IOWA LEGISLATIVE SESSION
SUMMARYS
APPROPRIATIONS FOR AIRPORTS AND AVIATION CONTINUE
The 2008 session of the Iowa Legislature was marked by the continued recognition by policy makers of the need for a healthy aviation system in the state.
Included in SF 2342, the Infrastructure Appropriations Bill, are two key funding items.
The first is $750,000 for infrastructure improvements at general aviation airports. The second is $1.5 million dollars for infrastructure improvements at commercial service airports across the state.
Special thanks go to Rep. Dennis Cohoon of southeast Iowa, Senator Steve Warnstadt of Sioux City and Senator Daryl Beall of Fort Dodge for their work on aviation funding.
AERIAL APPLICATOR RULES BILL APPROVED
The proposal to give the Department of Agriculture power to issue rules governing out of state aerial sprayers has been signed into law by Governor Culver.
The bill, House File 2551, included a change from the IPAA that clarified that the department of Agriculture would not be regulating aerial sprayers when they are not engaged in the commercial application of pesticides.
THANKS TO ALL WHO SENT EMAILS, LETTERS AND MADE TEPEHONE CALLS
The strength of the IPAA is its members and Board of Directors. It's that simple.
A special thanks to all the members who took time out of their busy schedules to send emails and letters, make telephone calls and traveled to the Statehouse this past legislative session. Your efforts make the IPAA and aviation an issue that lawmakers know they will have to deal with on an annual basis.
